Elizabethtown College History
Chartered in 1899, by members of the Church of the Brethren, Elizabethtown College was founded as an institution of higher education to support their denomination's beliefs. The founder's charter stated the goal of Elizabethtown College was "to give such harmonious development to the physical, mental, and moral powers of both sexes as will best fit them for the duties of life and promote their spiritual interests." Today, the College's mission is dedicated to the same philosophy of "educating students intellectually, socially, aesthetically and ethically for lives of service and leadership as citizens of the world."
